Following the sad passing of James Stinson, it was doubtful whether the Drexciya name would carry on. I'm not sure whether this is by the remaining member of the legendary group but the aquatic theme and tribute to James on the run-out groove would indicate that it is.

Either way, 'Spawn' is a superb example of top-drawer electro. Spacey bleeps kick the record off accompanied by some brutal but funky beats before the monstrous bassline kicks in. Flanged hi-hats, shattering claps and more sinister bleeps are added but it's the bassline that really blows the speakers up. And as well as the main mix, you also get a bonus beats. On the flip, 'Relentless' is another bass-driven stormer although this has more of a funk vibe. Organ stabs and jazzy synths run riot over the tough bassline giving this track the trademark UR sound.

Essential gear and a great tribute to one half of one of the most influential techno/electro groups of the past decade.
