Where to start? Well, the beginning is as good a place as any I reckon.
The mix opens up on a very definitely Detroit tip. Within moments of the
opening we have the familiar strains of "Good Life"(Carl Craig mix) originally by Inner City (aka Kevin Saunderson) coming into the mix. In fact in this mix there are 3 Kevin Saunderson tracks. There are also a number of Detroit tunes on this mix that feature artists such as Octave One, BFC (aka Carl Craig), The Vision (aka Robert Hood), Gary Martin and Jeff Mills. It's funky and tuneful but not at the expense of a good moving tempo. Deetron adds some weight to the overall feel of the mix by adding tracks from artists such as Oliver Ho and James Ruskin.
The mixes are quick and are precise. One thing I might say is that there are a couple of transitions that seem a little sudden but really, this is a minor criticism. I believe that this mix was done on 3 turntables which is impressive given the tightness of the mixes. As far as I could tell, there is not one beat out of place for the whole duration of the mix.
Overall I would say that this mix is a little light for my liking. I prefer something with a bit more bite. However, this CD should definitely appeal to those who are big fans of Detroit techno.
