The legendary Grooverider provides part 6 of the current Fabriclive series -
and with DJing luminaries such as James Lavelle, DJ Hype and Howie B
providing the predecessors to this mix, the pressure was on.
Faced with that kind of pressure, what would you do if you were Grooverider?
Well, you would take 18 drum’n’bass bangers, mix them to perfection and
wonder what all the fuss had been about.
Special Forces provide the tuneful, vocal What I Need, while Danny C offers
some funky salsa-style drum’n’bass with The Mexican.
There are harder-edged tunes like Digital’s techno-inspired Deadline,
Wasteground by Calyx which somehow creates the feel and energy of a heavy
rock tune, and the booming beats of Optimus Prime’s Amen Slag.
There are prominent drum’n’bass artists aplenty on this mix, with
appearances by Peshay, Ed Rush, DJ SS and Dillinja to name but a few.
The different drum’n’bass styles and vibes that Grooverider showcases on
Fabriclive 06 makes this an excellent introduction to the finer points of
drum’n’bass for those, like me, who wouldn’t dare claim to be connoisseurs
of the genre. I’m sure it will be just as appealing to those who eat, sleep
and breathe drum’n’bass.
