Anyone with even the vaguest of interests in underground dance music in
Scotland will no doubt have spent some time in Glasgow vinyl emporium
Rub-a-Dub. With the shop firmly established as Scotland's finest and with
their Club 69 nights renowned around the globe, the lads next step for
world domination is their own label. Having released a couple of 12"s in
2002 (including an excellent EP from Edinburgh's Marcia Blaine School For
Girls) this, their third release, sees them unleash yet more down-tempo
electronica on our eardrums.
The guys behind this eight track 12" hail from Glasgow, Leeds and London,
and their scattering throughout the UK means that their chosen mode of
production tends to involve the continual swapping of music, rather than any
collective jamming (although they do get together on the odd occasion).
Whether or not their disparate locations have any great influence on their
production, there's great diversity to be found in the tracks themselves.
>From the Delta blues meets Aphex Twin sound of 'Augustus Organik' to the
jazzy '60s soundtrack vibe of 'Blunted Locomotion', this EP is full of
surprises and will be enjoyed in particular by those who like their music
varied, as well as beautifully crafted.
