Life has taken it upon himself to make the most hard-line political hip-hop
tune of all time with the venomous Bush & Blair.
As part of the highly regarded Phi-Life Cypher you know that Life will
deliver clever lyrics and he doesn’t disappoint, while DJ Nappa drops some
Middle Eastern style beats with more than just a hint of irony.
‘Bush and Blair, two demons who don’t care about humanity, that’s why
they’re starting wars everywhere.’ Allegedly.
For me, this track’s heavy political content slightly detracts from the
funky production and Life’s lyrical dexterity. Most of the lyrics centre
around UK and US involvement in the Middle East with plenty of references to
Saddam, Bin Laden, and the ‘hypocrisy’ of the West as it supposedly wages
war on Muslims.
I Really Care is Life’s opportunity to list everything that he cares about -
and everything is covered from missing children, the inability of humans to
find a cure for cancer, racism and the untold wealth of the Royal Family.
Life is a rapper worth listening to and he certainly gets a lot off his
chest on this single. Bush & Blair isn’t going to move any dance-floors,
but anyone into heavy lyrics should check this out.
