Following the rapturous welcome given to their rare and much sought after twelve inches, Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani have finally got round to releasing the highlights of the four EP's they've released on New York's Environ imprint. However collectors fear not, as they've also generously included three new tunes on this eight track album.
For those who haven't had the pleasure, Metro Area combines the techno grounding of Geist with Jesrani's disco background to produce truly original house music of the highest order. Mixing electronic sounds with real instruments, the Metro Area sound is space -age funk but with a more organic feel. Whether it's the Metro Area 4 highlight 'Miura' with it's monophonic bassline and orchestral strings or 'Atmosphrique', the track that first brought them to the attention of house-heads the world over, the grooves grab you but never go for the obvious as a more subtle approach is employed.
The end result is an album that sounds as good in the bedroom as it does on the dancefloor. For those who have any of their EPs, you know the sort of quality that you'll be getting. And if you don't have any of their material, you're in for a real treat!
