Manchester duo My Computer’s new album Vulnerabilia isn’t your average
album. The influences found on it are too numerous to mention, with Dave
and Chesy extracting what they like from everywhere else and producing
something shiny and new.
All I Ever Really Wanted Was A Good Time is the nine minute epic album
opener and first single from the album. The track takes you on a journey
where the musical scenery takes in everything from electronica beats, to
industrial sounds and then acoustic guitar, while Chesy spills his guts all
over them in a way that sets the mood for the rest of the album.
There is a big electronica influence on Vulnerabilia, particularly on the
title track, which is something of a laid back dance track, with Chesy’s
distorted vocals bouncing all over it. Majic Flat takes on a slightly
harder edge, but still has what you find yourself calling the ‘My Computer
sound’ by that point in the album.
More To Life starts off like a classical track, before a Turin Brakes type
vocal turns it completely on its head, while No More Dealing is a
beautifully honest and frank account of what for most artists would be a
completely taboo subject.
Vulnerabilia somehow manages to be both morose and uplifting at the same
time, and there are moments on this album that will quite literally take
your breath away.
