Anyone into comedy hip-hop will no doubt have heard of Nottingham's number
one coal-mining MC. Lifting classic hip-hop beats and combining them with
his own humorous raps delivered in his distinctive Lancashire brogue,
Pitman's third limited 7" follows the same path as his last effort 'Witness
The Pitness'.
In 'Twat Farm', wannabe hip-hoppers are dissed with lines like "you thought
Doug E Fresh was a mouthwash", while the likes of Fatboy Slim is accurately
described as "an old Housemartin trying to mix". On the flip, Rob Base & EZ
Rock's 'It Takes Two' morphs into an ode to a cup of tea with added
paraphrasing along the lines of, " It's getting hot in here, can you turn
the heating off? I don't want to get a f*cking big gas bill".
While the Pitman records are a bit of a novelty, the raps are funny and
uniquely British, the beats are classic, and anyone who takes the p*ss out
of Tony Blair, Robbie Williams and Gareth Gates on vinyl is OK by me.
