I am a big fan of Ninja Tune. Let me just make that very clear before I go
any further.
There are large parts of Great Aviaries (the entire first half of it) which
sounds like a primary school music lesson in which the teacher has lost all
control of the class. I cannot describe what this album sounds like, or
even what Super Numeri were trying to do with it.
The second half of the album is marginally better, with some tracks actually
resembling music, but this band of avant garde Liverpudlian’s attempt to be
very clever on Great Aviaries generally backfires on them.
Super Numeri may well be pushing musical boundaries for all I know, but when
the result is an entirely unlistenable piece of music then that has to be
deemed counter productive.
